Friday 24 June 2016, saw the return of the annual Youth Work Excellence Awards in North Wales. The event was held at Venue Cymru in Llandudno with over 150 young people, youth workers and organisation representatives in attendance including Caryl Hughes from our own team here at the National Assembly for Wales.
The evening began with everyone arriving to register their attendance and to visit information stalls. As well as our own stall there were 3 others from Welsh Government, Atkins Associates and the Conwy Youth Service, each showcasing what they’ve been working on recently and the work that they do.
The evening began with entertainment provided by the magician Howard Hughes over dinner then vocal performances from Craig Ryder, Amelia Munro and Erin Dolan, all from the Conwy area, before trying out a bit of beat boxing with Mr Phormula. It was then time for the awards.
Each award had finalists that had been chosen by the judges, and the audience got to see videos of each finalist and the work that they had been doing. All the projects being showcased showed the great work all young people and youth workers across Wales do on a yearly basis and everyone involved should be very proud of themselves.
It was then time for Caryl to present the award for the best Young Person Led Youth Work Project with Vale of Glamorgan Youth Cabinet winning the award following work on a bus transport report. Well done to them!
It was a great evening and a great opportunity to see and meet youth workers, organisations and young people from all across Wales. Congratulations to everyone who won on the night.
