Hello! My name is Emily Jones and I’m 13 and from Chirk, North Wales. This February the girl guides that I’m part of participated in a first aid/medical holiday in Broneirion which is guiding headquarters. We learnt lots of interesting things about what to do in an emergency situation and different illnesses that affect people.
Another thing that happened is a representative from the National Assembly for Wales called Caryl came to visit us to talk about the work they do. At the end we were given packets with the same resources in and told to do a presentation to a group of ten or more young people to show them what we learnt.
On March 22nd I did my presentation to the year 5’s and 6’s from Pentre Controlled Primary school. Caryl came to the school to help me.
At first I was very nervous but I eventually got into it and had a lot of fun! We started off with a game where the pupils had to say whether they agreed or disagreed with statements about politics. A lot of them didn’t know much or didn’t care.
We also looked at the National Assembly for Wales’ work and asked if they knew the difference between the Assembly and the Welsh Government. I told them about the Senedd in Cardiff Bay and the Siambr inside. They learnt that there were five Assembly members for every person in Wales and I got the pupils to find out who theirs were.
We played a few more games involving true or false cards, a game where they had to find hidden subjects and a searching game with a mural.
The whole thing was a great experience and I really enjoyed it!
